Recently, I took a poll on my Instagram story asking how everyone was feeling about goals and resolutions for the new year and whether you were interested in making a 2021 vision board. While there were several people excited to outline their ideal self in 2021, the vast majority of respondents said they were not motivated and not into it this year.
Me. Too.
I made a vision board for 2020 that I hung on the wall and looked at every single day. And a few months ago, I would have told you I was planning on making another for 2021. But, like many others, that inspiration is just not there this year. I have noticed, however, that I do still feel those sparks of inspiration when looking for books.
If you read my post about my theme for 2021, you know I want to focus on consistency in the new year. Being the bookworm that I am, I’ve been researching some titles that would help improve my “areas of opportunity.”
Since our current reality is all about doing things differently, I figured why not take a similar approach here?
And that’s how my 2021 vision board in books was born.
I’m beginning the new year with five books on my TBR list to help me embody my theme of consistency. As I’ve thought about how I can create a routine of healthy habits, the idea of keeping the bar low kept coming to mind. Why should I spread myself so thin that I abandon my theme like I have past resolutions? I The more focused and specific I can be, the better my chances are of success. And I’m starting small because I don’t want to create too lengthy a list that overwhelms me (or I never finish).
2021 TBR Vision Board
The 5am Club
“Master your morning, elevate your life” is the tagline of this book. And that pretty much sold me right away. I am more productive and positive when I get up early, especially during the week. However, I don’t consistently wake up early (or easily). But I want to! Or at least I think I do now that I’m awake and fully caffeinated.
Make Your Bed
U.S. Navy Admiral William H McRaven shares in his 2014 commencement address at the University of Texas at Austin that making your bed is the secret to being productive and focusing on the finer details in life. I love when my bed is made but, I don’t make it consistently. However, if making my bed is what unlocks how I can be a better human and possibly change the world, I’m here for it.
French Women Don’t Get Fat
The French have it figured it out, y’all. From fashion and style to food and wine, the French know what they’re doing. I mean, bread and cheese are dietary staples there! And wine at every meal? Yes, please!
Eating well is always a struggle for me. I love eating, cooking, the whole dining experience. Yet stress eating is an especially bad habit of mine. No matter how many diets I try, I haven’t figured out how to get this under control without depriving myself of the things I enjoy.
One thing I know for sure though, I don’t want to exist in a world where I have to forego wine and cheese to look fabulous.
The Home Edit
Like millions of others, I binged this Netflix series during quarantine and am subsequently on an organization kick. Who knew clear containers could be so beautiful and handy?! With all the time we’re spending at home, I think now is the perfect time to create organized, functional systems for our house. That I can keep up with, (you guessed it) consistently.
Badass Habits
Last but most definitely not least. I read Jen Sincero’s You Are a Badass a while back and it changed my entire way of thinking. Since then, I’ve gone back to this book over and over and I get something different from it every time. Her style and tone of voice just speaks to me. Since Jen’s latest book is about creating badass habits and making them stick, I am especially excited to read it!
And that’s my 2021 vision board in books. Again, I’m starting small because I really want to follow through with my plan and bring more consistency into my life. I’m sure I’ll add more books to this vision board as the year goes on, but for now, this is my launching point!
